Karen Rose writes romantic suspense novels and since the characters are all interlinked, with some appearing in multiple books, they are better read in order. The series begins in Chicago, then Minneapolis, Baltimore, and Cincinnati, with the Vartanian trilogy taking place between the Chicago and Minneapolis books.
Don’t Tell (Chicago #1)
Mary Grace Winters knew the only way to save herself and her child from her abusive husband was to stage their deaths. Now all that remains of her former life is at the bottom of a lake.
As Caroline Stewart, Mary Grace has almost forgotten the nightmare she left behind nine years ago but then her husband uncovers her hidden trail. Step by step, he’s closing in on her and everyone she loves. Now Caroline must decide whether to flee again or whether the time has come to stay and fight.
Have You Seen Her (Chicago #2)
Special Agent Steven Thatcher has sworn to find the serial killer preying on his small town. As the investigation pulls him one way, his family pulls him in another. A widower haunted by loss, he now worries about his son Brad slipping away.
But there’s a bright light in his life; his son’s teacher, Jenna Marshall, has reached out to help. She’s beautiful, kind, and considerate — and slowly, tentatively, she and Steven are starting to fall in love. And as the two try to find the courage to bare their souls, a murderer who has slain many looks for the real treasure he craves.
I’m Watching You (Chicago #3)
Star prosecutor Kristen Mayhew has a dangerous secret admirer who seems to knows her every thought and move. He sends her letters. And he kills the criminals she herself is powerless to stop.
He even knows Kristen’s deepest secret — the one that has kept her from surrendering her heart to Abe Reagan, the police detective sworn to protect her. Like Kristen, Reagan is haunted by the loss of something precious that he can never regain. But in the shadow of a calculating serial killer, the two turn to each other and dare to rediscover passion.
Nothing To Fear (Chicago #4)
Sue Conway is out for revenge. Recently released from prison, she is determined to find everyone who helped put her there. And kidnapping an eleven-year-old deaf boy is only the first step in her plan.
Running to Chicago, they head to Hanover House and inner-city women’s shelter, run by Dana Dupinsky. Dana safeguards many secrets for those around her but she would never knowingly harbour a kidnapper.
You Can’t Hide (Chicago #5)
Someone is tormenting Tess Ciccotelli’s patients, pushing them to commit suicide, and setting her up to take the blame. But Tess can’t break her oath to protect her patients’ privacy, even when Detective Aidan Reagan demands a list of everyone she’s treating.
Aidan doesn’t like anyone who stalls his cases. Still, he can’t help but admire Tess’s fierce loyalty to her patients, especially when it becomes clear that a nameless, faceless enemy is set on destroying her.
Count to Ten (Chicago #6)
Lt. Reed Solliday has never experienced anything like this recent outbreak of house fires – devastating, vicious, and, in one case, homicidal. He has another problem – his new partner, Detective Mia Mitchell. She’s brash, bossy, and taking the case in a direction he never imagined.
Mia’s instincts tell her the arsonist is making this personal. And as the infernos become more deadly, one look at the victims’ tortured faces convinces her and Reed that they must work closer to catch the killer.
