I’ve been in my new flat for two weeks and am slowly getting used to the changes. One of the worst things about being in a ground floor flat is having neighbours above you, especially when that involves two small children who seem to run and jump about all day. They must have very tolerant parents because I would be yelling at them to be quiet every ten minutes. I have a suspicion the floors above are laminate and that just adds to the noise. I’m also sure they are doing some DIY judging by the sounds in the early evening which I’m assuming means the guy is working on the house around his working hours. I don’t mind the early evening noise, but could do without the banging at 7 am!
Apart from the noise above us, the rest of the street seems quiet and the residents across from us are always out doing their respective gardens so that puts pressure to keep on top of ours which is thankfully small. I hope they don’t go mad with Christmas decorations because we really don’t have enough storage space for more!
One of the hardest things about downsizing is trying to cram all your stuff into less space. Having said that though, I’m really pleased with how my bedroom has turned out and the IKEA units are working so well, I actually have more free space than before. Yay! I was very brutal with the way I went though my possessions before we moved, getting rid of anything I no longer used or had forgotten about and it helps that I’ve adopted a more digital lifestyle. The move would have been twice as hard if I hadn’t cleared out most of my books and DVDs. But, oh, my nail polish collection is so embarrassing when you have to pack it up and transport it somewhere else – I have 100+ bottles.
With all the upheaval, my routine is completely shot and I’ve barely read any books so I really need to get my butt in gear as I haven’t actually stopped buying them. A lot of my favourite authors have released new books this month, so I have a lot to get through. There is also a lot of new stuff on Netflix and I was champing at the bit for Season 2 of Marco Polo which launched when we were without our broadband for a few days. Once the cable situation was fixed, it was the first thing I watched.
I can certainly see why moving house is said to be one of the most stressful things you can do because I’ve decided I’m never doing it again. However, the whole process would’ve gone a damn sight smoother if the solicitor hadn’t left everything to last minute.
